Jon Culshaw and Bill Dare : The Great British Take off 4****

| On 21, Aug 2019

Jon Culshaw impressionist and comedian is best known for his work on the radio comedy Dead Ringers and TVs Spitting Image.
He is also famous for his call to number 10. Impersonating William Hague, he is put through to then Prime Minister Tony Blair. The two had a conversation that was subsequently broadcast.
Jon Culshaw is joined on stage by comedy producer and long time pal Bill Dare . They pull two chairs together and reminisce about Jon’s career . They start with his days as a DJ on a late night radio station .
Moving forward in time, they review time spent together on the ground-breaking spitting image , while moving backwards and forwards in time they dip in and out of Jon’s classic impressions, We get present-day impressions like Donald Trump together with older classics like Sir Terry Wogan, and Tom Baker. In one section we hear about one of Jon’s heroes the legendary Mike Yarwood.
I’ve always been mightily impressed by Jon’s accuracy, He doesn’t just mimic the voices but he breathes new life and expression into these characters. To see John live in the flesh adds yet another dimension. His skill really does touch on genius at times.
These shows are unscripted and each one is unique .
The audience are invited to make suggestions and they embarrass themselves by shouting over each other, such is their enthusiasm to hear Jon’s impression of their favourite..
