Daniel Martinez is a renowned flamenco guitarist and composer from Cordoba, Spain, based in Scotland since 2015. His first production Art of Believing won the Herald Angel Award in 2019’s Edinburgh International Festival and has been captivating audiences since its premier in October 2017.

He and his flamenco company are playing the Usher hall in Edinburgh ’February 2023.

This smaller scale production is a wonderful introduction to the emotion and passion of flamenco. Daniel takes time to introduce us to the various styles of flamenco from the various regions Cordoba, Sevilla, Cadiz, Malaga, Jaen, Granada, Huelva and Almeria. Each region has their own distinct ‘Palos’ (styles) of Flamenco and these are beautifully presented to the audience. He is joined by his brother who provides accompaniment. There are no dancers which allows us to concentrate on the wonderful guitar playing . We are then treated to some classics and some interesting Latin American pieces and finish with some of Daniels own compositions.

The range of technique on display was fantastic and this smaller venue enables those skills to be displayed close, you can hear every fret stroke and foot tap. Highly recommended if you already know Daniel’s work or if you wish to get an introduction to flamenco.
