The Cat in the Hat 4.5**** - One4Review

We saw this show last year, and although we liked it, we didn’t love it; however, there was enough to bring us back to this 2024 version, and we are glad we did!
The Cat in the Hat has made a number of improvements, turning into a more refined and engaging children’s production. The comedic timing, particularly from the Cat, has been written to ensure he’s making the children giggle at all times, and he throws in a number of jokes for parents too, making the character not only funnier but also central to the show’s appeal, as it should be! The increased reliance on ad-libbed moments adds a layer of spontaneity that works really well with the audiences, bringing up the overall energy of the performance. I’d bet money this iteration of the cat is based loosely on Cesar Romero’s Joker from the 1960’s Batman, and it works a treat!
One of the most obvious updates to the show is how they’ve fully leaned into making the Cat the antagonist, and it works really well. This shift makes the story flow better and gives the show a clearer focus compared to last year’s version. The performers now get the audience involved more with 4th wall breaks, bubbles, and large inflatables thrown into the audience for a sea of laughter and chaos to ensue! It’s overall just more fun and exciting.
The team behind this show has really nailed what a children’s show should be: fun, interactive, and memorable. The fact that you get a balloon and a chance to take a photo with the Cat at the end is a great bonus that leaves everyone with a smile.
