Magician, Illusionist or confusionist Sean Alexander brings his thought provoking and mind-bending show to the fringe. In front of a sell out crowd he begins the show by walking on stage with a balloon, the balloon’s significance is revealed at the end of the show. Sean then performs a clever mind trick before revealing in a sombre and poignant way how he became a magician 28 years ago. This short break from the trickery is one of a few moments that define the show as it is not all about magic and illusion, there is a heart warming back story to Sean that he’s proud to share with the audience.
Sean in simple terms is a dad, a dad that is no different from any other in regards to parenting, worrying and looking after his son. He speaks about pending tragedy and the importance of life and how a positive mindset is the only way to face life head on regardless of the odds. This moment in the show unexpectedly makes you appreciate what you have in life, what’s important and what’s not. Don’t worry its not as bad as you think!
With a bit of audience participation, Sean baffles the crowd with a card trick before gathering information from random audience members, this information is written down for all to see, he then asks the audience to take out there phones and instructs them to input a set of numbers, the result is amazing as you are left scratching your head how he manages to conclude the trick with such precision. Sean performs a variety of other tricks that have the audience gasping in awe before ending the show in spectacular style.
The beauty of this performance is not only are the magic tricks great to watch, Sean entwines the show with moments of thought and reflection leaving you with the sense you have just seen something unique but at the same time appreciate the efforts of someone who has fought to maintain a positivity throughout his life despite the challenges he’s had to face. My only regret was the show didn’t go on for a bit longer!
