Kayleigh Jones: I Fed My Dad to a Pelican 3***

| On 07, Aug 2025

This show has an excellent title: precisely true without really telling anything close to the whole story. It’s a good story, and worth visiting the show to hear the whole thing. Ms Jones is first and foremost a really good storyteller, and the jokes and the funny songs are a bit of a bonus. This is a debut hour, so the comedy and the story telling are perhaps not as enmeshed as they will no doubt become as Ms Jones accumulates more experience.

There’s lots of good stuff in here, so it’s to be hoped that Ms Jones does keep going and get that experience. Her background in performance as an actor mean she’s comfortable on stage, and had the confidence and skills to sustain the show’s energy in the face of a quiet crowd. Songs punctuate the story, accompanied by Ms Jones herself on banjo, and a particular highlight is about cyclical points in a long term relationship: funny, and relatable.

Despite the clickbait title, this show isn’t one of those ones which promises and doesn’t deliver. Kayleigh Jones proves she has the foundations and instincts for good comedy, and in time we’ll see her shine.
