Maia Tassalini: I Was 22 and Stunning 3☆☆☆ - One4Review

Maia Tassallini doesn’t share her age, but she is very glam, so we can attest that at least half of the show title is true. Maia’s hero is/was Monica Lewinski, and this show contributes to a general societal re-examining of how Lewinski’s story was framed at the time, as well as reflection on other cultural artifacts of the 90s, and their effect now. Case in point: Lewinski was described as ‘fat’, and Ms Tasallini has a fabulous punchline about that.
The artsy/academic description of the show aside, the show weaves Lewinski’s story with elements of Maia’s own story, with analysis and comparison. It’s generally funny, Ms Tassalini has some delightful crowd work, and things move along with enough pace and energy that the hour doesn’t seem that long. Maia has a sharp wit and some acerbic commentary amongst the discussions of fashion and poking fun at GenZ.
Ms Tassalini holds the stage and the show with confidence and there’s good energy from start to finish. Not a groundbreaking show, but a fun one nonetheless.
