In his show “Shadow Play”, Simon Evans entertains us to his latest Edinburgh Fringe adventure, 30 years since his first performance in the capital. This most eloquent veteran of the comedy scene is as sharp as a pin even though he’s now dining out on free prescriptions and railcards, 2 of the main benefits of old age.

Some of his opinions may be classed as unfashionable these days, but his non-stop stream of anecdotes is absolutely priceless. His observations are delightful, he may be old school, but his approach is pitched perfectly to the crowd. No need for any audience participation, he has oodles of material to shower upon us.

Evans brings intelligent comedy to another level, and you can tell he’s absolutely in his element standing front and centre on this impressive stage. You’ll feel like you’ve been given an education by the end of this show, genuinely stunned by his knowledge and ability to recall. I don’t want to give anything away, but the history of one Australian singer and her family, blew my mind!

A wonderful show, performed by the most genuine of comedians, I could listen to him and his tales all day long.
