James Gardner - Good Afternoon - 4.5**** - One4Review

James Gardner returns to the Fringe for a limited run with his show, “Good Afternoon”, but you’ll be very lucky if you get a chance to see his show, as this popular Scottish comedian is pretty much sold out already. And there’s a very good reason for that, he’s gathered quite an on-line presence on Tik-Tok and Instagram, and despite being an early afternoon show, it was packed out.
He’s been working on a fair bit of new material, and Scottish football and in particular, The World Cup, get a big shout out in this very funny hour long, one-man show. Did we ever think we would win the World Cup, of course not, did we expect to drink their bars dry, you bet we did!
James has a great rapport with his audience, and each story or joke craftily leads on to the next topic quite effortlessly. He’s a very confident comedian and his personality shines through on stage and he’s both natural and comfortable in his surroundings.
There’s a lovely nod to Scottish politics, his view, despite living in London, he’s on the button, picking holes in the recent scandals. Well observed and replayed with much laughter. Try and catch him at some of the guest appearances he’s making in other shows if you don’t get the chance to see him, I can guarantee a very “Good Afternoon”
