Hugo Hayes brings his very popular Instagram sketches to life with his first foray at The Fringe with his show, “A Bunch of Characters”. I saw him performing very early in his run and he’s still working out what lands with the crowd, however he still has managed to create the bones of a decent show.

The characters he chose to portray are at times a bit larger than life, awkward, creepy, suggestive, and inappropriate, played out with gusto. Hayes has a decent on-stage rapport with his audience, and we are encouraged to take a role in several of the scenes he sets out.

I’ve followed him on social media for a while now and I was excited to see how his comedy style would translate to the stage. He’s a very likeable and charming young lad at the start of his comedy journey. Flyering your own show and having to adapt your material will no doubt drive his hunger to succeed. Performing on-line and performing in a small venue competing for ticket sales is a very different experience and one I hope he relishes.

I look forward to where this Fringe experience takes him to next.
