If you are anything like me and find the ‘real’ news is never anything than depressing, then this hour of satire and mayhem could be just the ticket. Canal Cafe Theatre are once more bringing their tried and tested formula to Edinburgh, 47 years! And producer Emma Taylor clocks up a quarter of a century also, a major achievement.
The formula, as always is an onstage keyboard playing musical director together with a quartet of energetic, talented performers, sing dance and lampoon their way through a whole raft of mickey takes of pop culture, politicians and royalty primarily, but there are a couple of somewhat out there, and anachronistic appearances of Cilla Black and Wallace & Gromit there as well.
Expect to see Starmer, Burnham, Rayner, King Charles, Camilla, Megan, Louis Theroux, Farage, Davey and obviously Trump and many others, together with an AI lampoon along the way. This talented troupe career at breakneck speed through songs dance and generally funny material, okay some landed better than others, but there was always another skit coming, seconds away, so it wasn’t really an issue.
This is a highly interesting and funny hour to spend in the early evening, and who knows may make the news more palatable for many.
