Women of Rock – 4.5**** - One4Review

Reine Beau returns to the Fringe alongside the superb Night Owl Band with a high-energy celebration of some of the most influential women in rock music. Featuring the songs of Janis Joplin, Patti Smith, Tina Turner and many more, this is a show that combines great music with fascinating musical history.
We start with story of Sister Rosetta Tharpe who many consider was the “first person of rock “coming on the scene long before Elvis and Chuck Berry, this part was hugely informative, having known very little about her before the show, I left genuinely wanting to explore more of her work.
Raine Beau is an absolute powerhouse, with seemingly endless energy as she throws herself into every performance, blasting out hits from the Runaways and Suzi Quatro.
After a haunting version of Delores O’Riordan of the Cranberries singing Zombie, we finished with Joan Jett Loving Rock n Roll.
What makes this production especially engaging is the inclusion of background stories and context about each artist, alongside amazing vocals and supporting music.
I do find these shows a little short and just as the audience and fully relaxed and engaged, the show seems to come to a premature ending.
