Simon Munnery – 4.5****

| On 22, Aug 2025

Seasoned stand up comedian Simon Munnery returns to the fringe with his unique style of comedy that blends his individuality and adverse way of thinking into a stand-up show that covers a variety of subjects guaranteed to make you laugh.

The rag tag comedian enters the stage with his laid back yet funny persona that instantly has you thinking this guy doesn’t give a monkey’s but once he explains his recent visit to the hospital, you can forgive him for looking a bit dishevelled.

After a brief but funny insight into his father/daughter relationship, he gets into full swing with ample one liners you don’t see coming. He then moves on to the first of two sketches which is about two skiers who meet each other and discuss all things in relation to a skiing trip including clothing, skis and being out on the slopes. Only Munnery has the ability and style to turn what seems a mundane at times subject into a hilarious two-way conversation.

Camping isn’t for everyone but Munnery shares his thoughts on how to make camping a bit more economical with a couple of inventions that seem quite plausible, he spares no expense with the design drawings which add to the hilarity. The second sketch is about crucifixion, not quite the Life of Brian but Munnery’s version of it is almost as good. He finishes the show with some out of the box thinking poetry that only he is capable of producing.

Munnery is one of a kind with his down-to-earth outlook and laidback approach but he certainly knows how to keep an audience amused! His unique quirky style and the use of simple props throughout the show add to the laughter. His wacky train of thought matches his appearance as he provides an established performance from start to finish.
