This is a beautiful, polished, passionate show blending classical music and stand-up comedy, which is also about classical music, and stand up comedy, and what it means to make art, and be human. Aidan – dressed as Chopin – tells us he’s been working on the show for a while, and so this is somewhat a rarity in Edinburgh: a show that’s had time to mature and settle, where a performer can be so comfortable with the material they can focus entirely on sharing their passion.

Jones’ passion is very evident, and he makes it so very relatable. The show revolves around Chopin’s Nocturne in E♭ Major, a piece Jones’ rediscovered in the lockdowns, and which is likely vaguely familiar to most people. The show explores why the music, where it comes from, who Chopin was, technical elements that make the piece work and how it’s structured, and by the explainer of the third element you’re dying to hear it in full, and by the time he does play it all the way through, it’s no longer simply a piece of piano music, it’s become a fascinating new friend.

This is all delivered though the medium of stand-up comedy, which is similarly passionate and excellent, with plenty of entertainment and laughter – it’s not just a dry lecture, and it’s as much about the purpose of art – including stand up comedy – and the nature of success, as it is programme notes on a piece. Jone’s brings it all together, different melodies introduced, reprised, embellished, and eventually concluded with a heartfelt, sincere, and perfect moment.
