Mitch Benn – Asking Elvis 4.5 **** - One4Review
one4review | On 11, Aug 2026
I have seen many guises Mitch Benn has presented over the 30 years or so he has been in and around the Fringe in August, yet year by year this very gifted funny man manages to present a different theme to the tried and trusted formula of self-penned funny songs interspersed with anecdotes and his take on stories.
Following last years success about Tom Lerher, it is the King who is the focus of attention this year. Or is it? Benn is much in demand as a comedic singer of songs, for many years on Radio’s The Now Show, but few if any knew he was asked to play Elvis on The Steve Wright in The Afternoon much loved extravaganza. Mitch reminisces and relates several of the outstanding moments and reveals his admiration for the presenter, marked with a tribute song delivered a la King| so maybe it’ is a tribute to him as well!
There is no doubt that the covers of a famous song written after Elvis’s death, but performed ‘as him’ went down particularly well with the crowd.
Benn has always been a quality performer and continues to be so and is a perfect way to spend a late afternoon hour.
