Gavin Webster - The Last Ever Punk Rocker 4**** - One4Review
one4review | On 11, Aug 2026
Over the years that Gavin Webster has been performing at the Fringe you can be sure of a slightly old school proper comic performance from a master of his art.
Don’t look for hidden meanings. Webster says what he means and means what he says. And quite volubly.
He reminisces of his youth, as a punk rocker, although he was slightly young initially to appreciate it, and the attitude it lived by, anti-establishment, their habits, mating rituals and derivation. One hilarious part was a conversation as to who was the first punk, gradually going back from the 70’s until the annals of time. The rate it is delivered and the examples provided makes hilarious listening.
Mentions of The Great Rock’n’Roll Swindle and other banned films, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Rod Stewart different voices, and the excesses of AC/DC are all featured highlights in his all too short performance. The show I witnessed had a former punk who was enjoying the show almost too much, especially as he and Gavin had mutual acquaintances.
Webster is always a safe pare of hands and it is good to get back to no frills comedy every now and then.
