American sisters Amelia and Avi Gorman bring their first full length show to Edinburgh Fringe, with a bit of Shakespeare, showgirls, puppetry and comedy throughout, there’s surely something for everyone?

The show unexpectedly starts with a bit of comedy Shakespeare by Johnno, now I’m not a Shakespeare fan at all and I didn’t sign up to what I thought was going to be seven acts of it! Fortunately for me it wasn’t as long as that. He starts with a scene from Pompeii which I thought was quite ironic as Pompeii was destroyed by a volcano, the heat in the venue felt very similar! After a creepy scene where an adult serenades a 14-year-old girl, he moves on to the return of the king who’s return didn’t last that long. His costume was fantastic but the Fringe ID badge around his neck didn’t quite belong in ancient Roman times!

On to the main act and the close-knit double act sisters take to the stage dressed in 1926 showgirl attire and perform their tap dance routine, meanwhile their two envious rat counterparts watch on from under the floorboards! Enter rat ‘Daddy’ who sets out to literally get in between the two sisters and causes both to fall out and argue with each other. Just to confuse things a little more, the two envious rats make an appearance several times as their mischievous plot thickens. As the story jumps between the sisters and the rats, there is brief pauses for the sisters to do a quick costume change during which the theme to Phantom of the opera is played, this superbly added to the devious portrayal of the two rats.

The final sequence of the now Spectacular vermin sisters jumps to a more modern time and, the dance moves along with the Rap/R&B music is very well done and just as you think the show is starting to progress and get even funnier, it ends!

As mentioned, the venue was uncomfortably hot but it’s dark stone walls and low ceiling was well suited for a play about rats! You have to love the variety of the show and the enthusiasm both sisters put into the performance, they complement each other very well, their dance routines along with hilarious misfortunes and facial expressions, makes the show worth seeing. The start was a bit left field, only disappointment was it just seemed to end too soon, I suppose that’s a sign I was enjoying it and didn’t want it to end but I think there is scope for so much more.
