A Musical Comedy Showcase with Alex Camp 4**** - One4Review

Alex Camp’s musical comedy showcase is exactly the sort of thing that makes the Free Fringe tick.
Camp is no stranger to Edinburgh. Every year he seems to be building a little cult following of his own, and his army is growing.
With his usual deadpan guitar style, he starts with the 80s indie touches that are great. There’s a dating song, and before you know it you’re already in his own musical comedy version of Flight of the Conchords.
Then we get our first special guest, Andy Burnham lookalike Mike Osborne, who’s set for fun and is doing blues comedy about mice.
Camp is back, his time-travelling song is outstanding. Think more of a reverse angsty We’ve Been to the Year 3000 by Busted, with flourishes only Camp can deliver.
The headliner Amy Webber is an absolute joy who brings energy and songs that will make you want to see her main show, with Erection Rejection a highlight.
For a late afternoon show, this has all the sparkle and fun that you can only really find by taking a chance, and is everything the Fringe should be about. Camp has clearly got something good going on.
Like this review, the show is short, but the audience leaves satisfied and, more importantly, wanting to check out what else Camp and his guests are doing.
