Shane Torres- Skinned Knees 4**** - One4Review

Writer, actor and stand-up comedian Shane Torres is originally from Fort Worth in
Texas. He’s made several TV appearances and is no stranger to performing at comedy
festivals far and wide, but this is his fringe debut.
Shane entered the stage stating his show was straight up comedy not like some of the
other weird shows. He makes a confession and briefly alludes to a bizarre incident
with his mother’s ashes. This sets the scene as Shane has had a lot of bad luck
throughout his life including an unfortunate accident when he was in 3 rd grade.
His father was Mexican and his mother was Irish and he has two brothers. His mum
worked in a hospital for years, but his dad’s profession was a bit of a mystery until
one day the police turned up at the house and it soon became apparent what his dad
had been doing or in this case, not doing! His mum and dad soon divorced, and his
two brothers also left the house and went off the rails a bit. As the new ‘Man of the
house’, Shane spent many a night watching movies with mum who had a crush on a
specific well-known actor. His dad moved into a homeless shelter with some
interesting residents. After a while his dad remarries but later suffered a stroke he
didn’t recover from.
Shane contacts an old prom date, and they soon rekindle their romance but then
came the day Shane had never prepared for, his mum passing away. His brothers
didn’t provide much comfort and neither did the priest who read her last rights. Shane
always thought his dad didn’t have much to do with them when they were growing up
but he discovers his dad wasn’t all that bad. He ends the show revealing the full story
behind his mum’s ashes.
This show is extremely funny at times but also has a sad back story, as Shane draws
you in with some hilarious punchlines, he then opens up to his family life and his
obvious love and respect for his mum. He’s one of those lovable guys you would love
to meet in a pub and listen to him making humour about his personal misfortunes.
He’s a confident and experienced comedian that can easily make you laugh one
minute and break your heart the next. He deserves a bigger audience as this show is
well worth seeing.
