Amy Matthews – The Definition of Toast 5**** - One4Review

It’s been a couple of years since I have seen Amy Matthews do an Edinburgh show, so I was looking forward to seeing this year’s offering.
Dressed in her pyjamas, her words, this very talented and extremely funny performer, explains that she has a slow burn to getting angry, alexithymia, is the technical terminology. Things do annoy her, it just takes longer to realise it and the title of the show is explained and offers three definitions which are revealed during the performance.
From the onset Amy is on fire, the material wide and varied, break ups, childhood wishes, peoples entitlement on crowded trains, Millennials, Gen Z not caring about dressing for going to clubs, an Autism test, spin classes, and her new relationship are all expounded on in a constant hour of hilarity, that no matter one’s generation, resounded throughout the room, and the occasional use of call-backs, a favourite of mine added to the proceedings.
Amy Matthews, or is occasionally called Any Mattress, is surely destined to go on to bigger and better things given her progress and there was certainly nobody at the gig I saw would grudge that in any way.
