Andrew Maxwell 5***** - One4Review
one4review | On 15, Aug 2026
Andrew Maxwell has been gracing the Edinburgh Fringe for more than a quarter of as century and has performed in so may different venues, from dismal rooms in the Cowgate back in the 90’s but he quips, never in a conference hall until this year.
The vast barn of a venue has hundreds of Maxwell fans pouring into it on the night I attended, all certain that there was an hour or slightly more of top-quality entertainment forthcoming, and sure-fire belly laughs by the score.
Maxwell is not the largest comic on the circuit, but his huge personality and phenomenal talent fill the auditorium, one man, one stool, and a table, no showmanship or posturing, just pure ability and a raft of anecdotes, observations and hilarity to spare.
Avid news hound Andrew of course has plenty of scope given the current world we live in, be it the recent World Cup, Scotland’s Tartan Army, American tourists, working in America, red-neck bars, Titanic Museum in Belfast, Orcas, religion, Trump obviously, recent health issues and of course his family all feature to some extent, all packed through with laughs. Maxwell seems to be enjoying himself as much as the crowd were, and is definitely in top form, but no surprise there, he always is.
This year there is only a very few gigs on offer from the Former King of Comedy so don’t delay in seeing a real masterclass from one of the very best around.
