Clann An Drumma- Thunder of the Celts 5*****

| On 28, Aug 2026

Clann An Drumma ‘Children of the drum’ are a tribal band from Scotland and have been performing for over 25 years and are no strangers to Celtic festivals. Their ancient Celtic style is hard to miss as they wear their own traditional tartan and combine large bass drums with bagpipes to produce a thunderous sound that shakes through every bone in your body.

The Stramash venue allows the audience to get up close with unrestricted views and there’s plenty room to dance around while you enjoy the performance.

Let Alan, Grant, Scott and Jamie take you back to a time when the clans of Scotland formed during the medieval era and the drums roared to unite the clans as they fought with diverse allegiances.

Jamie begins the performance with a raw Scottish introduction, a hooded figure of ancient times in possession of the mighty claymore sword, he lays down the challenge and its time for the drums to be heard. To be clear, this is no pipe band, as the drums begin to roar you can feel the energy and noise around the venue and it’s not hard to imagine how this would stir the warrior in every man and have you motivated for battle. While Alan and Scott produce the thunder, Grant accompanies the drums with the bagpipes and what you get is a deep base crescendo of noise that stirs your emotions from head to toe.

As they go through the 90-minute set, Jamie provides a brief vocal storyline throughout which keeps you entrapped in the moment, the energy put into the performance is evident as sweat and muscles are on show, adding to the raw performance. They play a well-known piece from ‘Last of the Mohicans’ called the ‘Gael’, a stirring Scottish tune that’s a personal favourite. The performance ends with a thunderous encore which encourages the audience to sing/shout along to.

If you’re a tourist and want a taste of true Scottish tradition, this show is it. Clann An Drumma is a band every Scottish person must see. Their drums are enjoyably deafening and I’m sure they echoed down the cowgate and beyond as they stirred the very foundations of Edinburgh. They’re a great bunch of lads that bring Scottish culture home with their ancient style, so go see this outstanding performance and remember to ‘keep it tribal’.
