It was September 2013 when I first saw this Glaswegian comic on stage when he won The Scottish Comedian of the year in style and his career has rocketed since. Numerous Fringe and touring show his popularity has grown expedientially, so it was of little surprise to see the show was a total sell-out. I don’t suppose his recent appearances on the British version of Saturday Night Live has done his profile any harm either.
Dean was immediately into his stride from the off, his non-stop movement on stage, his wealth of funny, laugh-out-loud material and his uncanny brilliance in mimicking accents are all part of the Dean charm.
The thrust of the show this year centres on his recent move to London and his marriage to partner Mikey.
Stories of how they met, their life together, the proposal, the wedding, and guests were all revealed with the often self-deprecation style had the audience oohing and aahing along with him.
The show is tight, the pace impeccable, the material well crafted and extremely funny. I would not have expected any less from a performer of his calibre.
Larry Dean is a star and will be for a long,long time. Catch him while you can.
