Haaland is a Norwegian-UK comedian who shoots from the hip; she is no stranger to the Fringe and European comedy venues. Given her nationality and the fact she has travelled a lot, it’s no surprise this show has a strong international theme but she’s the only comedian I know that was genuinely hired to perform a show by NATO!

The show begins with a quick intro to discover all the nationalities in the room and Haaland later uses this to target certain members of the audience depending on the joke at the time. She alludes to being strapped to the bed as a child, but is this normal behaviour in Norway? She then makes comparisons to Norway’s Scandinavian neighbours before addressing Norway’s concern in relation to America’s intention to ‘inherit’ Greenland. With Sweden, Denmark and Iceland on board, what could those countries possibly do to inhibit America’s takeover? Well Haaland has a hilarious idea regarding their famous exports!

She has a love/hate relationship with Sweden which she refers to several times throughout the performance and humorously relates to both countries having the same nonchalant attitude towards winter Olympic medals! She introduces her crush and explains why she only dates Swedish men. After a few more nationality assassinations, she reveals the one thing that absolutely makes her mad, which is surprising given how cold Norway can be, yet it was relatable and funny to the audience. As the show ends the departing music is of course Norway’s A-ha which brought a smile to those in the room of a certain age.

Haaland’s performance was confident, exuberant and full of energy. Her lovable, bubbly personality easily captures the audience’s attention and she has a knack of delivering a punchline that the audience don’t see coming. Despite the venue being very hot and Norway being very cold, it was a warmly received show with plenty of laughs and giggles along the way!
