Ted Hill Teaches You Science, Most of Which is True is certainly not the standard bubbly children’s entertainer, but a much more cynical clown who brings his own unique, burnout energy to this chaotic morning show. The show starts with the floating head of Hill who engages the audience quickly, and like most children’s shows audience interaction is heavily encouraged, whether Hill actually wants to interact is another matter. We learn about his Britain’s Got Talent fame and loss to a dog, which the majority of the room lights up when he mentions.

Hill is currently at a crossroads of his career, comedy, science instructor for schools, something new entirely? This show allows him to go “buckwild!” and you can’t help but feel we’re all watching a science teacher on the edge of a breakdown as he’s forced to do children’ parties to fund his own research. The show is full of beakers, fire, unlabeled bottles and constant chaos. I’m not entirely sure if the cola/mentos routine going wrong was actually planned and he always intended to throw a cola soaked towel at a child in the audience (several times) but the audience cheered with laughter as everyone learnt about consequences of actions!

The children are gleefully screaming as Hill takes us through various standard science show experiments and although I’m not entirely sure what we learnt, I do know my children left with some new material they repeated at me for the rest of the day. The show isn’t just for smaller ones, with the right balance of side jokes for adults too. The show is perfect for those who want something a bit wonderfully unhinged.
