Matthew Hayhow is back at the Fringe, this time he’s new and improved, faster and stronger. Wheelchair-bound with MS, he’s part Professor X brainiac, part filthy minded observational comic.
Hayhow from the beginning has the crowd in the palm of his hand, firing off razor-sharp riffs that take on Lord of the Rings, sex workers, the Vatican, Stephen Hawking on Epstein Island. Buses, dating apps, sex and improv all get a well and truly run over too. And then there’s the description of his own physique as having an arse like Kim Kardashian with Freddie Krueger’s face.

And he’s just getting started. A blue badge routine that will bring tears to your eyes, followed by his declaration that he’s a left-winger but his muscles are progressive, floors everyone.

Last year showed he had potential, and this year Hayhow has clearly earned his go-faster stripes. His trajectory suggests he’s creating his own access ramps into the comedy circuit, with nothing holding him back. An absolutely fearless genius in waiting.
