Phil Cooper is a very different man at this year’s fringe, compared to last year, and his show “Deckchair” is a tale of how your life can be turned upside down in the blink of an eye.

 

This amiable Welshman has joined forces with The Comedy Sheep brigade and is playing to a packed room the day I saw him perform.  His life has been somewhat chaotic recently, he’s now a single man experiencing the highs and lows, the dating apps and the dates, all with often hilarious consequences.  New relationships and exploring his new found sexuality lifts the lid on what it’s like looking for that someone special in your life.

 

He’s very relaxed in his style and delivery now and he has developed a very easy listening show.  How he manages to find humour in everyday disasters is great, the punchlines land very naturally. There’s a lovely piece in where he compares diary entries with his grandfather who served in WW1 as a 19 year old.  Very different to him at a similar age, and absolutely hysterical.

No need to arrange the “Deckchairs” on this comedy ship, far from sinking it’s going swimmingly!
