Crowd work is a skill sometimes underestimated in the comedy world, but when it is done well it can be amazing.
Avalon have decided in their wisdom to present an hour of this skill, hosted by the amazing Frank Skinner with two top quality comedians drawn from the Fringe, a different pair each night, to showcase their abilities. Prior to the start time everyone in the queue is given the opportunity to submit various photos, subject matters, embarrassing moments and so on via a QR code, which are unknow to the stars, and become the topics discussed with the senders.
I was fortunate to see a stellar line-up as Frank is joined by Sara Pascoe and Glenn Moore who are obviously enjoying themselves as much as the near sell-out audience were. Although the star guests change daily, however if this is the standard of guests then a great hour is assured.
But in some respects, it is the audience who are the stars. Their involvement, their material they submitted along with the interaction with the pros make the show the undoubted success it is. Oh and there is a prize on offer as well at the end.
This is a lovely show to watch, an hour of relaxed fun and a hoot throughout.
