Mama G effortlessly holds the crowd’s attention in a warm, uplifting adventure about an evil earthworm who has stolen every book from the library. With the help of the magic bookmark and the audience, Mama G must find three books within 24 hours, outsmart the earthworm and save the library.

The songs are perfectly timed, ( children’s attention spans are short!) the storytelling is assured and there are a few knowing winks for the adults. Three books are read throughout the show, while children are invited onstage to help complete the quest. Mama G is such a confident and reassuring performer that everything feels completely safe, even while allowing the children to become part of the story.

The show’s greatest strength is its message: books are good, friendship matters, believe in yourself and you can change the world. “Oh Yes I Am” becomes a wonderful affirmation that children don’t have to give up or be the same as everyone else.

Even the antagonist is ultimately forgiven and welcomed as a friend. Mamma G is clearly someone who has read incredibly well and thought about the message she’s delivering.

She’s created a joyful celebration of books, friendship and believing in yourself.

These are meaningful ideas, but they are expressed in a way that children can immediately understand.

Mama G clearly loves books, children and helping people recognise their own potential. She has written a wonderful book and built a brilliant show around it. Everyone leaves the room happier.

I’m still hearing from my nieces about Mama G’s rainbow dress and how amazing it was.

An excellent show that children will inevitably love.
