Guy Branum : Be Fruitful 4**** - One4Review

We are promised that the meaning of life will be revealed. Guy Branum cuts a formidable figure on stage, and I for one, believe him.
The show takes the form of a Ted Talk. We are presented with a series of slides with various facts and figures to back up Guy’s findings on science, faith, sexuality and much, much more. Guy talks so eloquently and commands the audience’s attention from the moment he steps on stage.
This is not gentle comedy and is sometimes uncomfortable as our prejudices are confronted. Guy asks various audience members to say a three letter word that immediately springs to mind on looking straight at him. This, after much coaxing, are words to the effect of; clinically obese homosexual.
Guy challenges all our romantic thoughts on gay men and their pursuit of finding a partner. We learn of a relationship with a sex worker which certainly challenges the norm. The tension builds as Guy paces amongst the audience and states that he will find the second fattest person in the room. This is all quite confrontational, but just as the tension builds, Guy skill fully reminds us that this is a comedy show, with a killer punchline.
This is an hour of thought provoking comedy from an Emmy Award winning writer and former lawyer. He is smart, witty and there is a surprising, some might say, brave end to the show.
