Shrink wrapped is a unique show where three comedians are analysed by a real-life psychologist based on a short 5-minute set. Each show has a different focus and this shows focus was exploring the comedian’s sense of self. The show is hosted by Robyn Perkins who is also one of the comedians being analysed, joined by Ethan Cavanagh and Raul Kohli. Todays show featured Dr Edel McGlanaghy as guest psychologist.
The audience featured many professionals within the field of medicine, psychiatry and psychology but you certainly do not have to be in the field to understand the concept of the show. The show features a very brief but funny insight into the comedians’ sense of self while making clear to the audience that this is NOT a genuine therapy session, it is all for fun. There was even a small cash prize if the psychologist made any of the comedian’s cry!
Even though this was all in good fun, there were a couple of times you could see that some of what was feedback explored hit home to some of the comedians. What I liked was the three of them, who clearly get on, all supported each other, laughed and joked with each other which eased any anxieties that came up. The show was very funny and the hour passed by so quickly.
Highly recommend, the show exceeded my expectations.
