Cirqulation: Journey 4**** - One4Review

Cirqulation: Journey 4****

| On 26, Oct 2025

Cirqulation is Scotland’s travelling contemporary circus ensemble, offering a vibrant and thrilling showcase of theatrical circus acts performed by some of the country’s most talented artists. Each performance features a guest act from the local area, making every show a unique experience with new perspectives and narratives.

Created by the Edinburgh-based company Delighters, each edition blends aerial, acrobatics, dance and poetic storytelling, all woven together by a powerful central theme.

The show opens with a trunk and suitcase placed at the centre of the stage. Cast members move about, bags in hand, with the background sound of a busy station setting the scene. From the moment the performance begins, you are immediately drawn into the sense of anticipation for the journey ahead.

Magically, one of the cast members emerges from the trunk, and from there, you are taken on a mesmerising journey. The acrobatics, strength and skill of these performers are truly astonishing as the story evolves.

The aerial routines, perfectly timed to the background music, are captivating. A duet trapeze performance incorporating a suitcase is breathtaking, while an aerial silk routine, where the artist twirls gracefully around the silks, almost gives the illusion of flight. Another highlight was a stunning aerial performance where a cast member, suspended by her hair, glided effortlessly around the stage. A solo trapeze act, in perfect sync with the music, had a dance-like fluidity that was enchanting.

The strength and precision of a duo performing an intricate acrobatic balancing act had the audience on the edge of their seats. The clever use of bags and cases as props tied the entire narrative together, adding a layer of cohesion throughout the performance.

One cast member delivered a slick, entertaining routine, juggling, hula-hooping and balancing an umbrella with impressive finesse.

Beyond the incredible circus tricks, what really elevated the show was the storytelling, characterisation and acting. A businessman, brilliantly portrayed as he nervously fiddled with his briefcase on his first day of work, performed an amazing juggling routine that had great comic timing. The comedic character who seemed to collect bags and cases throughout the show added an extra touch of humour that brought the audience closer to the story.

Overall, Cirqulation offers a fantastic theatrical circus experience that would be enjoyable for all ages. They are currently touring around Scotland and would recommend if they’re in your area you go along to see them. I look forward to seeing them back in Edinburgh soon!
