Two Northern lads tackle an hour of comedy in “Northern Soul”, and they actually do a very good job. Joe Casey from Newcastle and Glaswegian Pierce Higgins keep us all well entertained, each with their own material in a show that feels like you’re very much part of the action.
Joe kicks of the first half and his banter with the audience is very natural and funny. His crowd work is engaging and he eases himself into his routine. His Geordie accent lends itself well to his storytelling and he has a lovely delivery and pace. He packs a fair amount of content into his part of the show, but it never feels rushed or forced.

The second half is where it’s Pierce Higgins turn to shine. His observations on life and what’s going on in the world are brilliant. So good in fact that he may have told my “Joke of the Fringe”. Funny yarns with a Glaswegian tilt, his conversational style is wonderful and there’s a great flow to his work.

I hope that this Fringe acts as a solid foundation for them to build on and grow their comedy careers.
