The Funny Women 2025 finalist and self-described comedy hottie is back at the Edinburgh Fringe.

The setup of the show is like Mastermind (with a chair), only instead of answering questions on a specialist subject, it’s everything that comes with being a woman in her 50s who apparently hasn’t had enough, but is trying, with the audience’s help, to find some answers.

For example, why am I here? The answer, as it turns out, has something to do with propping up Garden Centre income. As the show progresses, it becomes a brilliant collection of observations, compliments and wonderfully sharp advice, from how teenagers manipulate their dads to mums being far wiser to the game, kids’ achievements and roast battles with the fly-by-night friends who appear and disappear from your life.

Her lapsed accountancy career is played beautifully, while the evil of LinkedIn and its surprisingly useful networking opportunities for finding interesting wines all feed into the wider themes of client confidentiality, how it does and doesn’t work, self-promotion and the strange business of presenting yourself to the world.

Then there’s Madison, a thread that keeps coming back throughout the show. A fake, or composite, of every Gen Z comedy trope rolled into one character who keeps appearing in her thoughts. Does she actually exist? We don’t know, but she’s a glorious Wokenstein of a creation.

Make no mistake, Day is in full control. At one point she warns the young people in the audience that Mum is talking, so they need to stop and listen, as they spring bolt upright in their seats.

This is a step up from last year, and the Banshee venue suits her better. It’s a completely brand-new show and setup, and hangs together rather beautifully.

We already know who runs the world —idiots. Today, though, for an hour, it’s Day who rules a stage, and it’s a joy to behold.
