On one of the hottest days so far this Fringe, a sold out show took place in a Old Town basement, there was A/C to take the edge off. We were here to see a show called Father Christmas, a stage set with Xmas trees, tinsel and so on. It was happening.
Chris Forbes is a well established Scottish comedian and actor, probably best known for roles in Scots Squad, and being the fictitious ’Other Murray brother Duncan’ along with tennis coach Judy.
If we were struggling with the heat it was worse for Chris, Santa hat and Xmas jumper on. This very likeable and funny comic , he led us through his traditional family Xmas‘s growing up illustrated with a series of annual family photos a tradition in the Forbes household, though this is not overdone.
Forbes narrates the show with style. He has a calm presence, an excellent writing style and good points and bad points in the family dynamic are handled accordingly.
But don’t forget this is a comedy show, and he is a cracking comic as well, there are laughs a plenty throughout the hour. One not to miss.
