Phil Nichol – The Naked Racist 4*** - One4Review
one4review | On 17, Aug 2026
Some things never change during the Fringe and one of those things is Phil Nichol. Back in 2006 in a small room in the New Town of Edinburgh the original production of this show, one of 4, yes 4, Nichol was involved with, was rocking the joint to the extent of winning the prestigious Edinburgh Comedy Award.
Fast forward to 2026, and after a seven-year absence Nichol is back and again involved in 4 shows, a play, 11 ½ Angry Men, his Cray Cray Cabaret, and two solos shows, Aren’t we lucky and this revival.
He is celebrating the anniversary of his award-winning show, a 1 million miles an hour story of the Doukhobors tribe of Russians peasants that protested in a unusual way, a major fall out with his then girlfriend led to a 4 day drug and booze bonanza with a quick summary of some of the crazy scrapes and outrageous characters he met along the way leading to an unexpected finale.
Nichol has, if my memory is correct, slightly abbreviated the 2006 production, and occasionally updated references, however it is still a show well worth seeing, strap in for the experience. Expect mayhem, demolition of the fourth wall and the occasional musical number thrown in also. Nichol at his manic best. Where does he get his energy from?
