Ian TC : Ian-Somnia 4 ****

| On 22, Aug 2026

Glaswegian Ian TC starts his set with a well-put-together parody of a certain Edinburgh film, and it is a lovely introduction to a show built around his insomniac existence. Surviving on two hours’ sleep a night, he has managed to enhance it rather than endure it, a bit like his love/hate relationship with the capital, and he has plenty to say about the things that grind his gears. From J.K. Rowling, silent discos and the middle class English invention that is Shit-Faced Shakespeare.

In his 50’s, with his slightly broken body, this is a man who thinks skinny jeans are compression bandages; he makes his observations on ageing, confusion, sleep diaries, and spontaneous travel a joy.

This is a well-organised show; the attention to detail is spot on, and great visuals enhance it rather than hinder it, which isn’t easy to do given that today he’s performing in a venue that can only be described as inside a child’s tent. Add to that he has to deal with apocalyptic rain creating a new water feature and tearing down the walls, leaving Ian as the comedian last man standing, ploughing through adverse conditions and getting this sublime liquid gold set home and dry.

In this cultural Magaluf, there are enough shows to give even the most hardened comedy seeker choice paralysis. This clever, sharp show would be so easy to sleepwalk past. Please don’t. Ian TC is exactly the Rocky Scottish act to discover and root for.
