European-based Argentinian comedian Adrian Minkowicz is back in Edinburgh doing what he does best: a South American-themed show, this time about his travels extravaganza through his own continent.

But before we get there, we are taken through a catchup on his recent activities, like a disastrous Britain’s Got Talent audition, Norwegian television appearances, and losing a gig to Hollywood royalty. A brilliant section on football aims at Scotland’s inability to do anything, while England are relegated to the damned to wander the earth cursed for all eternity to never win any major tournament, which goes down well with the international partisan audience.

Minkowicz has plenty to say about the perceived Argentinian sharp arrogance in South America’s neighbouring countries, which leads nicely into his observations on South American culture a la The Motorcycle Diaries, with the audience on piggyback.
He regales many entertaining encounters on hotel etiquette, an excellent detour through 400 years of history, where Minkowicz manages to turn it into something genuinely funny.
Slavery plays a big part in these countries’ histories and is handled particularly well, as is the portrayal of Lord Elgin as an unethical Indiana Jones who stole artefacts; to this day, these South American treasures are still in the British Museum.

There’s a lot crammed in, but Minkowicz keeps it moving, connecting the personal and political and never preachy and effectively funny.
Overall, a lovely globe-trotting hour well worth visiting.
