The Blondie Story – 5***** - One4Review

The Blondie Story – 5*****

| On 15, Aug 2025

A phenomenal show capturing the rise and influence of punk pioneers Blondie.

The band kicked off at a high tempo before Reine Beau took the stage, setting the tone for an energetic and engaging performance. The story of Blondie was told through a compelling mix of video clips, photos, and powerful musical interludes, each highlighting key moments in the band’s journey.

Opening with Tonight, the show explored Blondie’s formation and early days. After touring with David Bowie and Iggy Pop, the band secured their first record deal. Though not financially rewarding, it led to the release of the iconic Parallel Lines, celebrated with electrifying renditions of Hanging on the Telephone and One Way or Another.

The show then shifted to Autoamerican, reflecting Blondie’s evolving sound, influenced by New York’s vibrant art scene. Rapture showcased Debbie Harry’s rap vocals. A touching anecdote featured drummer Clem Burke stepping in to play for a tribute band after their drummer was injured—before heading off to perform his own gig.

The narrative also addressed the band’s hiatus due to Chris Stein’s autoimmune illness and his breakup with Harry, which deeply impacted their music. Despite this, Blondie’s legacy endured, inspiring ’90s bands like Blur and No Doubt. Their triumphant return was marked by the hit Maria, which made Debbie Harry the oldest woman in the UK to top the charts.

Each member of the Night Owl Band delivered a stellar performance, but Reine Beau truly shone. Rather than imitate Harry, she brought her own charisma and strong stage presence. The audience loved it—while not on their feet, there was plenty of whooping, chair dancing, foot tapping, and air drumming throughout!
