Cherry West – Aff the Telly! 4 ½ ****

| On 14, Aug 2025

This was a much-anticipated show for me, I had first seen Cherry two years ago  when she was 16 and Scotland Youngest Grag Queen, I also had the pleasure of watching the person behind Cherry, “Sam Carlin”, in Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at last year’s Fringe — a touching standout performance that has stayed with me ever since.

Before the show even began, Cherry was working the courtyard in a striking cape emblazoned with her own face. Her confidence, especially at such a young age, is frankly remarkable.

Unfortunately, due to technical issues, the performance began nearly 20 minutes late. But when Cherry finally burst onto the stage — and into song — she looked every inch the seasoned drag performer.

The show took us on a playful journey through the time she almost made it onto television, imagining the dream ending: golden buzzers lighting up and all four judges turning around.

Highlights included an outstanding rendition of Sam Smith’s Fire on Fire and her original song Red All Over. She has called herself a “vocal powerhouse” in the past and on this performance, it would be impossible to disagree. aside from her vocals she is cuttingly funny, she is bitchy, brassy and feisty and she is undoubtedly on her way to a big career in entertainment.

I would have loved to have given Cherry 5 stars but as the show was running late, I sadly had to leave before the finale, What I did see was first class.
