Kathryn Gordon: A Journey of Flight 4**** - One4Review

Journey of Flight is an immersive 50-minute dance performance that carries the audience on a graceful and moving passage through the skies. Created in Shetland and inspired by the migration of birds, it weaves together mesmerising choreography, evocative live music from Jenny Sturgeon, and breathtaking projected visuals.
The audience is seated around the stage, creating an intimate, 360-degree experience that draws viewers deep into the unfolding story. With just two dancers at its heart, the performance holds attention from the first step to the last, their fluid and precise movement capturing the arrivals, departures, and bittersweet nostalgia of place.
Set against a backdrop of flowing white sheets that shift and billow like clouds, the dancers navigate ever-changing spaces, exploring what it means to leave, to arrive, and to find new homes — both physical and emotional. The atmosphere is further enhanced by lighting that subtly shifts in mood and tone, echoing the changing landscapes and states of being.
Visually, the piece is a feast: projected landscapes blur into abstract shapes, mirroring the rhythms of flight. Sturgeon’s score is rich and textured, creating a soundscape that feels both rooted in nature and tinged with longing.
Journey of Flight invites reflection on the delicate balance between nature, movement, and our ties to each other, leaving the audience buoyed, as though lifted on the wing. This is a wonderful immersive dance experience that I highly recommend you experience for yourself.
