Louisa Ní Éideáin – Dopa-Mean Girl! 4****

| On 08, Aug 2025

Talent and craft don’t just run through Dopa-Mean Girl! they practically gallop.
Dublin Fringe award-winner Louisa Ní Éideáin makes her Edinburgh debut with Dopa-Mean Girl!, a high-voltage celebration and examination of life with ADHD. The show crackles from the first beat — part glitter-soaked cabaret, part rapid-fire monologue — pulling the audience inside a mind that rarely sits still.
Ní Éideáin moves with ease between the playful and the poignant. One moment she’s singing in Gaeilge, the next she’s off on a conspiratorial therapy tangent, or confessing to past missteps with a shrug that’s half mischief, half honesty. Every tangent feels earned because she’s lived it — the surges of creativity, the chaotic impulses, the relentless pursuit of that next sweet hit of dopamine.
The musical side is equally great. her songs bounce between abrasive pop hooks and lyrical gut-punches, holding comedy and confession in perfect tension. The gear changes are deliberate — fragility snapping into frenzy, intimacy flipping into spectacle — keeping the room both entertained and alert.
Where Dopa-Mean Girl! really lands is it’s inclusivity. Ní Éideáin doesn’t just use ADHD as a punchline; she explores the ache of lost moments, the fear of forgetting, the bittersweet pull towards versions of herself she can’t quite recover. Yet she never lets it tip into sentimentality — the fizz of recognition and humour keeps it buoyant.
By the end, you feel like you’ve been granted access to the smartest person in the room, messy, bright, unpredictable, and entirely itself. ADHD isn’t framed as a flaw here, but as a superpower — just one with the volume permanently up.
Ní Éideáin is the kind of new Fringe arrival who could move from cult to household name in a flash.
