Ooft! – Jay Lafferty 5***** - One4Review

I have seen Jay Lafferty perform on stage for more than 20 years and I have always admired her work, writing and dedication. Is there a harder working comic around? A top comedy host, a podcaster, never far away from TV and radio of course a writer and performer of hour long Fringe shows which are always titled after a Scottish colloquial word or expression.
From the onset she commands her venue, crowd work to explain the title to visitors and explain the main premise of the show, a last train journey from Glasgow to Greenock and the character encountered on this way home. And we are off.
During the course of the hour, Jay talks of so many things, marriage, friends divorcing, parenting, in-laws, Mums WhatsApp groups, hangovers, male versus female road rage, and different generations are just a sample. Each story packed with recognisable characters, flaws and above all a multitude of laughs.
Like the train we were taken on, the show started off gently, gradually gathering momentum and pace. The laughs built as well, always there, but latterly, so long and hard, one almost missed the next gem. People near me were almost crying with laughter at times.
This show will almost certainly be sold out very, very soon. Ms Lafferty has charisma, a personality to engulf the entire room and the ability to write and perform amazingly funny shows. You would be a fool to miss out.
