Stuart McPherson – Crisps and a Lie Down 4**** - One4Review

Stuart McPherson is a well-established name on the comedy scene and a successful one too. He opens with that he is early 30, a wife and a child. Well, sorta, he has a partner, like him, she is a stand-up, and a dog that sees to be in charge.
They have been considering starting a family, but has doubts based on the world today, his parenting skills and lifestyle, being self-employed with irregular income being just a selection of his worries.
The audience I was part of were somewhat subdued, some of his better material not getting the credit it deserved, he turned it around with quick witted replies. The material in respect to his dog’s reaction to Stuarts ‘sexy time’ was brilliantly written, with even the quieter crowd in stitches.
McPherson has an excellent stage presence, and a fertile comedy brain. But he is calm, gets on with his job, getting laughs from many, and should have got more given the quality of the material. I wish I had seen him with a full house of laughers, then this show would really have rocked, but it was a very enjoyable hour anyway.
