Stephen Carlin: The Podium of Unconditional Surrender - One4Review

***

3 Stars

Stephen Carlin is a comedian I have seen a few times before and I am convinced that he has the makings of a very good comedian; he has stage presence, some fine well observed material and a almost dead pan delivery style, yet for some reason his shows I have seen are never sell outs. Why?

Stephen comes from a working class background in Lanarkshire and some of his initial stuff originates from this, but it is not all from this area.

Carlin talks about everyone’s ’favourite’ Irish budget airline, citing examples of incongruity in their services, a trip to London to see Buzz Aldrin, golf, fairgrounds, double-decker buses and Argos to name a few of the topics of his hour.

It is fair to say that he has some different ideas about some things and who’s to say they do not make sense at times.

Carlin’s is an enjoyable hour and a little different from some. The show I saw was fairly well attended and went down pretty well with most. I would like to see how he went with a packed house in a larger venue with perhaps more to feed off.
