Beats on Pointe 4****

| On 09, Aug 2024

Beats on Pointe returned to this year’s Fringe to a packed house, with the atmosphere electric from the start. This talented group of dancers had the audience clapping and cheering along to their impressive routines, showcasing stunning backflips, head spins, and dynamic breakdancing moves.

The show seamlessly fused various dance styles, including ballet, contemporary, hip-hop, and breakdancing. The choreography was exceptional, cleverly blending disco, rap, and hip-hop with a unique ballet and street dance twist. A standout moment featured a ballerina dancing en pointe, delivering a brilliant rendition of Michael Jackson’s iconic Moonwalk. Energetic breakdancing routines and endless pirouettes kept the audience enthralled from start to finish.

Throughout the performance, the energy never dipped. The dancers incorporated amazing routines with comedy sketches that kept the crowd entertained. Notable highlights included a dance competition between Hip-Hop and Ballet, complete with a hilarious slow-motion choreographed reaction to the score, and a comedic routine where a ballet dancer disrupts a performance of Swan Lake. The music selection was excellent, taking the audience on a nostalgic journey through hits from the 80s to the present day.

The dancers’ personalities shone brightly, endearing them to the audience, who responded with a well-deserved standing ovation. A great family show, offering a delightful mix of humour, impressive dance, and engaging music.
