Game On - 5***** - One4Review

Game On – 5*****

| On 21, Aug 2024

Game On is a captivating exhibition that takes you on a journey through the history of video games. Held at the National Museum of Scotland, it features over 100 playable games from the last 50 years, including iconic titles like Space Invaders and Minecraft. The exhibition is a treat for anyone interested in gaming, especially those who grew up with these classics.

The exhibition is well laid out, with games available on their original hardware, offering a genuine feel of how they were meant to be played. It’s a hands-on experience that brings back fond memories for older visitors, while also introducing younger ones to the evolution of gaming. However, younger children under 10 might find it challenging, as many games require using a controller or keyboard and mouse.

One slight drawback is the lack of a larger dedicated area for classic arcade games, which some visitors might expect. While there are some arcade titles, they are mostly on consoles rather than original arcade machines. There’s a limited selection of games suitable for very young children.

Game On is a fun and educational experience that’s well worth a visit. It’s a perfect outing for gaming enthusiasts, offering a mix of nostalgia and discovery, though it might not be ideal for very young children or those looking for a more arcade-focused experience.
