Letters From My Dad (Who is Dead) 5***** - One4Review

The title would suggest this play could be a bit dry and morbid but it’s not, it is an outstanding piece of work performed by four actors. When a dying father decides to write letters to his son Charlie, to assist him through significant events in his life and reassure him he will be right there by his side, you are instantly hooked on this powerful and emotional performance.
Charlie’s dad dies and his mum is there to pick up the pieces. Throughout his life he receives a letter from his dad to assist him and give him words of guidance for key events such as first day at High school, relationships, marriage, parenthood, and death. The acting is so good, you get a real connection between dad and son and appreciate the love they have for each other. Charlie grows up wanting to follow in his dad’s footsteps before marrying Sam and having a baby together. After an eventful life, it’s Charlie’s turn to write a letter to his own son Jamie before his time on this Earth is over. He reunites with his mum and dad in heaven leaving the audience in a state of stunned emotion.
Every time a letter is opened, Charlie discusses it with his spiritual dad, it covers a new chapter of his life with some sound advice that stays with you. If you have lost someone recently, this show will hit you hard. There were several audience members in tears which is credit to the performers, especially the actors who played Charlie and Sam. This is the most heartfelt show I have ever seen at the Fringe that humbles your outlook on life.
