Pretty Good, Not Bad 3.5***

Ellen Tolland is a wannabe actress who has had some previous success but when she auditions for her latest venture it doesn’t go too well but she tries to convince the casting directors otherwise?

The audition requires her to show a bit of violence but is cut abruptly short, sensing imminent failure, she lets rip with the auditioners and begins her journey of suggestion of how an audition should play out.
It’s at this point the story jumps in and out of reality and backwards and forwards from her past to present and it’s difficult to tell whether she is drawing on actual past experiences or improvising for the benefit of the casting agents to show off her brilliant theatrical mind.

The story tells of being attacked in New York City by, as it turns out, a serial rapist. She goes into great detail about her attacker, the medics that arrive post incident and the police officer in charge of the investigation. She briefly jumps back to high school before returning to the story. The mind bending performance then ends as it started.

There is no getting away from the fact that Ellen Tolland is a very good actress who can deliver a flawless performance. She adds what seems natural emotion to scenes that draws the audience to her plight.
The show is quite tricky to follow as she often digresses from the storyline and its unknown what is fact or fiction. You decide!
