Dr Hammond’s Covid Enquiry 4****

| On 21, Aug 2022

Covid? Statistically more folk will die falling down the stairs. This was Dr Hammond’s take when news of this novel virus started to creep across the world. Little did we know what we, and the NHS were in for.

Dr Hammond is a physician, broadcaster, comedian and commentator known for his commentary on the National Health Service.

He asks if our Governments managed the Pandemic better? And none of the Home nations come out of it well. Did we lock down in time? Did Nicola do better than Boris? Should we have followed New Zealand or even South Korea’s examples?

Surely our government would lead by example as we looked to them? I’m looking at YOU Matt Hancock, Dominic Cummings and of course…Doris. Dr Hammond has things to say about your indiscretions and it may be a bitter pill to swallow.

Dr H then goes on to talk about the trauma experienced by NHS staff, and about the trauma experienced by the public while Britain locked down. Did we do the right thing? Should we have gone as far as we did? Should we have gone further?

Despite the seriousness of the subject Dr Hammond tackles the subject with humour. His content is neither offensive or provocative-he’s a realist. He tells us about his experience of locking down with his wife, even down to toilet issues!

I could have listened to him talk all night about Health Inequality and the redistribution of health services – at this point I should probably confess that Nursing is my day job but I was heartened when speaking with other patrons outside, they also enjoyed the show. Dr Hammond has another show “How I Ruined Medicine” at theSpace at Surgeons Hall – I’ll be making an appointment!
