Amazing Stories of Blues and Soul 3*** - One4Review

Amazing Stories of Blues and Soul 3***

| On 13, Aug 2022

Having battled my way between the hoards of people walking along the Bridges and nearly ending up joining a silent disco, I eventually got to the venue just in time before the show was about to start.

It was well worth the effort as the band provided a great nostalgic performance of Blues and Soul music covering the history and influences from the 40’s to the 60’s.

Four members of the band started the show taking us back to the early period of the Blues. Frank gave a great demonstration on the “Diddley Bow”, a single stringed instrument which influenced the development of the blues sound. They were joined by the remaining members of the band as they took us on a journey from Blues to Gospel to Soul. They certainly know their stuff, providing interesting background stories between songs. This eight piece band provided energetic performances of classic blues and soul songs such as Big Jo Turners, Flip Flop and Fly, Bo Didley’s Can’t Judge a Book By the Cover and even the godfather of soul himself James Brown (cape included), I Feel Good.

These guys were great fun to watch, providing humour, interesting anecdotes along with a great selection of music. You can tell that this is their passion through their energy and knowledge of the music .Maybe not the best soul singers you’ll hear but their delivery and personalities more than compensate for that.
